Peru Travel Mart (PTM), the most important and recognized tourism business roundtable in Peru, brought together more than 250 tour operators, 125 foreign companies and about 135 Peruvian companies in its twenty-fifth edition. It was held from April 27 to 30 at the Lima Convention Center (CCL).
This event, co-organized annually by the National Chamber of Tourism - CANATUR and the Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Commission - PROMPERÚ, was attended by foreign companies in the tourism sector from 25 countries, including operators and wholesale agencies seeking to learn what Peru has to offer. Around 85 companies were there for the first time, i.e. 68% of the total number of buyers.
In addition, the Peruvian companies that participated included hotels, travel agencies, airlines, cruise lines, restaurants, land transport and train companies. These companies were tasked with presenting various tourist products related to nature and adventure tourism, archeology and culture, gastronomy, experiential tourism and incentive travel, among others.
With the aim of strengthening the promotion of Peru and taking advantage of the presence of industry stakeholders from countries such as Brazil, which arrived with a delegation of 18 companies, or France, which was represented by a delegation of 13 tour operators, Peru Travel Mart also held, in addition to the business roundtable, seminars on the services and activities that can be carried out in Peruvian destinations.
These seminars highlighted the nature and adventure experiences possible in protected natural areas and in our Amazon region, as well as gastronomic tourism as a travel mobilizer, among other topics.
Peru Travel Mart seeks to encourage the sale of Peruvian tourism products, the inclusion of a varied tourist offer in the travel catalogs of operators from the countries that visit us and to strengthen the presence of Peru as a nature and adventure destination on the international market.
The adventure and nature tourism segment was in fact on show, displaying a variety of activities such as trekking, mountain biking, canoing and surfing at the beaches along the coast, which are already becoming favorites among the international travelers who visit us. According to the 2016 Foreign Tourist Profile, 59% of foreign vacationers carried out nature activities and 42% adventure activities.
Over the years, Peru Travel Mart has enabled us to generate business in a strictly professional environment, through work meetings and speed-networking. More than 7,000 business meetings were arranged in the 2017 edition. The new destination promoted last year was Chachapoyas and its main attraction, Kuelap, which contributed to an increase of more than 17,000 visitors in the arrival of international tourists to that destination.
